3 DEFINITION
oil of amyris : The oil obtained by steam distillation of the wood of Amyris balsamifera Linnaeus grown in the area bordering on the Carribean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

4.1 Appearance
Clear, slightly viscous liquid.
4.2 Colour
Pale yellow to amber.
4.3 Odour
Characteristic, woody.
4.4 Relative density at 20/20 °C
Minimum : 0,946
Maximum : 0,978
4.5 Refractive index at 20。C
Minimum : 1,505 0
Maximum : 1,510 0
4.6 Optical rotation at 20 °C
Range:+ 10° to + 60°
4.7 Miscibility with 90 % (V/V) ethanol at 20°C
The miscibility with 90 % (V/M) ethanol shall be 1 volume in 1 volume to give a clear solution, sometimes with opalescence on dilution.
